WHAT MUST WE DO
TO DO THE WORKS OF GOD?
John 6:28 Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that
we might work the works of God? (KJV)
I. THEY CAME TO JESUS BECAUSE OF WHAT THEY SAW HIM DO!
A. They came to Jesus because of the miracles, loaves and fishes.
John 2:9 When the ruler of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine,
and knew not whence it was: (but the servants which drew the water knew;) the
governor of the feast called the bridegroom,
Matt 14:19 And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the grass, and took the
five loaves, and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed, and
brake, and gave the loaves to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude.
(KJV)
Matt 14:20 And they did all eat, and were filled: and they took up of the
fragments that remained twelve baskets full. (KJV)
Matt 8:16 When the even was come, they brought unto him many that were possessed
with devils: and he cast out the spirits with his word, and healed all that were
sick: (KJV)
Matt 4:23 And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and
preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all
manner of disease among the people. (KJV)
Matt 9:35 And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their
synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness
and every disease among the people. (KJV)
Acts 10:38 How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with
power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the
devil; for God was with him. (KJV)
II. WHAT DID JESUS SAY TO THEM?
1. DID HE SAY THEY COULD NOT DO THE WORKS OF GOD?
2. DID HE SAY THEY WERE NOT WORTHY?
3. NO, HE TOLD THEM WHAT HE WORK OF GOD WAS.
John 6:29 Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God,
that ye believe on him whom he hath sent. (KJV)
III. THE WORK OF GOD IS TO BELIEVE ON JESUS.
A. THIS BELIEVE IS MORE THAN SUPERFICIALLY, IT CONSISTS OF 3 WAYS WE MUST
BELIEVE!
1. WE MUST BELIEVE IN WHO HE IS,
Mark 1:1 The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God;
John 1:34 And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God.
John 3:18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not
is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only
begotten Son of God. (KJV)
John 11:4 When Jesus heard that, he said, This sickness is not unto death, but
for the glory of God, that the Son of God might be glorified thereby.
John 11:27 She saith unto him, Yea, Lord: I believe that thou art the Christ,
the Son of God, which should come into the world.
a. The demons know who He is.
Luke 8:28 When he saw Jesus, he cried out, and fell down before him, and with a
loud voice said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God most high?
I beseech thee, torment me not. (KJV)
2. BELIEVE IN WHAT HE SAID!
Matt 24:35 Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away. (KJV)
Heb 13:8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and forever.
John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man
cometh unto the Father, but by me. (KJV)
John 6:63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the
words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life. (KJV)
Matt 11:28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give
you rest. (Matt 11:29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and
lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
John 16:7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go
away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.
Mark 16:15-20 Acts 1:8
3. BELIEVE WHAT HE DID
Rev 1:18 I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for
evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death. (KJV)
Romans 5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet
sinners, Christ died for us. (KJV)
Matt 8:17 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet,
saying, Himself took our infirmities, and bare our sicknesses. (KJV)
John 14:19 Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me:
because I live, ye shall live also. (KJV)
Phil 2:6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with
God: (KJV) Phil 2:7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a
servant, and was made in the likeness of men: (KJV) Phil 2:8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became
obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Phil 2:9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which
is above every name: (KJV) Phil 2:10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven,
and things in earth, and things under the earth; Phil 2:11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the
glory of God the Father. (KJV)
IV. Greater Works
John 14:12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works
that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I
go unto my Father. (KJV)
Matt 5:16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works,
and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
God bless you and yours!
