SOMETHING TO GIVE
In this sermon outline we look at Acts third chapter and we see Peter
and John having something to give to a crippled man. We point out five
things that they gave, five things that we as Christians have to give.
However, are we giving out what God has given us? We are not referring
to money; Peter and John had nothing yet they gave the man something.
They gave at least five things.
Acts 3:1-11 (KJV) 1 Now Peter
and John went up together into the temple at the hour of prayer,
being the ninth hour. 2 And a certain man lame from his mother's
womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple
which is called Beautiful, to ask alms of them that entered into the
temple; 3 Who seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple
asked an alms. 4 And Peter, fastening his eyes upon him with John,
said, Look on us. 5 And he gave heed unto them, expecting to receive
something of them. 6 Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none;
but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of
Nazareth rise up and walk. 7 And he took him by the right hand, and
lifted him up: and immediately his feet and ankle bones received
strength. 8 And he leaping up stood, and walked, and entered with
them into the temple, walking, and leaping, and praising God. 9 And
all the people saw him walking and praising God: 10 And they knew
that it was he which sat for alms at the Beautiful gate of the
temple: and they were filled with wonder and amazement at that which
had happened unto him. 11 And as the lame man which was healed held
Peter and John, all the people ran together unto them in the porch
that is called Solomon's, greatly wondering.
I. MEN OF PRAYER. - Now Peter and John went up together into the temple at the hour of
prayer, being the ninth hour. A. If we are to have something to give to the world we need to be a
people of prayer.
II. Then the man who spent his whole life begging.
- And a certain man lame from his mother's womb was carried, whom they
laid daily at the gate of the temple.... A. 6 DAYS A WEEK HE BEGGED. 1. Everyday but the Sabbath.
III. EVERYONE THAT ASKETH RECEIVETH. A. He did what all beggars do, 3 Who seeing Peter and John about to go
into the temple asked an alms 1. To receive you must ask. James said you have not because
you ask not. James 4:2 ....... ye have not, because ye ask not. 2. Jesus said ask and ye shall receive. Matthew 7:7-8 (KJV) 7
Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it
shall be opened unto you: 8 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he
that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.
IV. Acts 3:4 - And Peter, fastening his eyes upon him with John, said, Look on us. (KJV) A. It seems like Peter and John were SEEING FOR THE FIRST TIME. 1. NOW SEEING WITH SPIRITUAL EYES. 2. EYES OF FAITH. 3. IN ACTS 2 THEY WERE FILLED WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT. 4. Now seeing with the eyes of God. a. Seeing through the Word of God.
V. Acts 3:5 (KJV) - And he gave heed unto them, expecting to receive something of them. A. EXPECTED TO RECEIVE FROM THESE MEN. B. To receive we must expect and believe. C. First a test, what he heard no BEGGER DO NOT WAT TO HEAR. Acts 3:6 (KJV)
Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I
thee...... D. Then he heard something he never heard before. but such as I have give
I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk. 7 And
he took him by the right hand, and lifted him up: and immediately his
feet and ankle bones received strength. 8 And he leaping up stood, and
walked, and entered with them into the temple, walking, and leaping, and
praising God.
VI. PETER AND JOHN GAVE HIM 5 THINGS. A. WE CAN GIVE THE SAME 5 THINGS. B, However, WE CAN HAVE SOMETHING AND NOT USE IT. 1. THEY GAVE THEIR FAITH. It took faith to stop. 2. GAVE THE NAME.
- Colossians 3:17 (KJV) And whatsoever ye do in word or deed,
do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the
Father by him. 3. GAVE THE WORD. 4. PUT WORKS TO THEIR FAITH. 5. Gave him the right hand of fellowship. a. He RAN INTO THE TEMPLE, HE NOW WAS PERMITTED. b. PEOPLE WITH BLEMISHES WERE NOT ALLOWED IN,
JESUS HAS MADE US ABLE. c. Acts 3:10 And they knew that it was he, which
sat for alms at the Beautiful gate of the temple: and they were filled
with wonder and amazement at that which had happened unto him. d. ADDED DIVIDEND, THEY GAVE THE RIGHT HAND OF
FELLOWSHIP.
VII. GOD'S KINGDOM PRINCIPLE. - Luke 6:38 Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed
down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your
bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be
measured to you again. (KJV) A. THIS BROUGHT MANY INTO THE KINGDOM OF GOD.
- Acts 3:11 And as the lame man which was healed held Peter and John, all
the people ran together unto them in the porch that is called Solomon's,
greatly wondering. (KJV) B. THIS BROUGHT MANY INTO THE KINGDOM OF GOD.
- Acts 4:4 (KJV) Howbeit many of them which heard the word believed; and
the number of the men was about five thousand.
