LOOKING UP RATHER
THAN DOWN!
Psalms 5:1-3 (KJV) 1 Give ear to my
words, O LORD, consider my meditation. 2 Hearken unto the voice of
my cry, my King, and my God: for unto thee will I pray. 3 My voice
shalt thou hear in the morning, O LORD; in the morning will I direct
my prayer unto thee, and will look up.
In this sermon outline we point out the
need of looking up unto the Lord. Too many of God's people are depressed
and one of the reasons is that they are not looking to the Lord for
their problems. They are either looking downward or inward when them
should be looking upward to the Lord. Psalms 121:1-2 (KJV) 1 I will lift
up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. 2 My help
cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth.
I. Starting the day by looking up to the Lord in prayer.
- Psalm 5:3 My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O Lord; in the
morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up.
A. I begin the day with declaring that Jesus is Lord of my spirit, my
mind and my body.
1. This gives not place for the devil. Ephesians 4:27 (KJV)
Neither give place to the devil.
II. Many times cares of life make it difficult to look up.
- Psalm 40:12 For innumerable evils have compassed me about: mine
iniquities have taken hold upon me, so that I am not able to look up;
they are more than the hairs of mine head: therefore my heart faileth
me.
A. Doing this time we need to do as the Psalms 121:1-2 (KJV) 1 I will
lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. 2 My help
cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth.
B. He never gives us too much to bear. 1 Corinthians 10:13 (KJV) There
hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is
faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able;
but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be
able to bear it.
1. We need to learn cast our burdens on the Lord. 1 Peter 5:7
(KJV) Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.
III. We must also look and see what God has done for us.
- Mark 8:25 After that he put his hands again upon his eyes, and made
him look up: and he was restored, and saw every man clearly.
A. Many times we forget all that God has done for us. Psalms 139:17-18 (KJV)
17 How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the
sum of them! 18 If I should count them, they are more in number than the
sand: when I awake, I am still with thee.
B. As the hymn declares 'Count your blessings, name them one by one and
see what the Lord has done for you'
IV. Then we need look up and be ready
for His coming.
- Luke 21:28 And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up,
and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.
A. What a day that well be when we see Jesus.
B. We will look upon His face.
1. He is the one who saved us by His grace. Ephesians 2:8 (KJV)
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it
is the gift of God:
V. Let us look unto the Lord and let us walk in victory.
- 1 Corinthians 15:57-58 (KJV) 57 But thanks be to God, which giveth
us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. 58 Therefore, my beloved
brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of
the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the
Lord.
God bless you and yours!
