SOME BENEFITS FROM
PSALM 103
In this sermon outline we share a few of the wonderful blessings this
Psalm has for us as a child of God.
Psalms 103:1-22 (KJV) 1 Bless
the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name.
2 Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: 3 Who
forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases; 4 Who
redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with
lovingkindness and tender mercies; 5 Who satisfieth thy mouth with
good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle's. 6 The
LORD executeth righteousness and judgment for all that are
oppressed. 7 He made known his ways unto Moses, his acts unto the
children of Israel. 8 The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to
anger, and plenteous in mercy. 9 He will not always chide: neither
will he keep his anger for ever. 10 He hath not dealt with us after
our sins; nor rewarded us according to our iniquities. 11 For as the
heaven is high above the earth, so great is his mercy toward them
that fear him. 12 As far as the east is from the west, so far hath
he removed our transgressions from us.
I. ENTERING INTO GOD'S PRESENCE IS THE
KEY TO RECEIVE BLESSING.
A. I leaned as a child that if I wanted something from my father that he
did not always want to hear me say, "give me" but rather how great a Dad
he was and that I loved him. The he would then open his pocket book.
1. We need to praise God for blessings to us.
- Psalms 100:4 (KJV) Enter into his gates with thanksgiving,
and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his
name.
2. We need to tell God how much we enjoy living in His
presence.
a. I think we delight to praise what we enjoy
because the praise not merely expresses but completes the enjoyment. C.S.
Lewis.
3. We all desire praise as it encourages us to do better.
a. That is why we have cheer leaders.
b. Everyone needs recognition for his
accomplishments, but few people make the need known quite as clearly as
the little boy who said to his father: "Let's play darts. I'll throw and
you say "Wonderful!'"
II. AFTER ENTERING IN AND PRAISING THE LORD THE PSALMIST BLESSED HIS
NAME!
A. Once again and again we are to bless the Name of the Lord.
- Psalms 100:4 (KJV) Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his
courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.
1. We need to see how wonderful His Name is.
2. His Name brings all the benefits of God into our lives.
III. PAULS SAID EVERTHING WE HAVE COMES THROUGH HIS WONDERFUL NAME.
1. All things.
- Colossians 3:17 (KJV) And whatsoever ye do in word or deed,
do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the
Father by him.
a. In the previous verse we praise Him and then
comes the use of His Name.
- Colossians 3:16 (KJV) Let the word of Christ
dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another
in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your
hearts to the Lord.
IV. THE BENEFITS THEN FOLLOW.
A. Here are a few of the wonderful benefits of His Name!
1. Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; ........
a. To me this is the greatest of the benefits.
b. We become children of God by calling and
believing on His Name.
- John 1:12 (KJV) But as many as received him, to
them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe
on his name:
- Romans 10:13 (KJV) For whosoever shall call
upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
2. Who heals us of all our sickness both spiritual and
physical. 3rd verse......... who healeth all thy diseases;
a. Old and New Testaments promises.
- Ex 15:26b ...... for I am the LORD that healeth
thee.
- Isa 53:5b ........ and with his stripes we are
healed.
- 1 Peter 2:24 (KJV) Who his own self bare our
sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should
live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.
b. He was a healer in Bible days and He is one
today.
- Hebrews 13:8 (KJV) Jesus Christ the same
yesterday, and to day, and for ever.
V. HE THEN PROTECTS US FROM EVIL.
A. Remember the Lord's Prayer, " deliver us from evil."
B. The devil would like to kill and destroy every believer if he could.
- John 10:10 (KJV) The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill,
and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might
have it more abundantly.
C. Jesus gives us abundant and eternal life in Him.
VI. THE PSALM CONTINUES WITH HIS BLESSINGS BUT I CLOSE WITH VERSE 12.
- 12 As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our
transgressions from us.
A. When we come to Christ and receive Him as our own personal Saviour,
not only is our past forgiven, our names written in heaven but also He
never remembers them again. This is the Grace of God.
VII. BLESS YE THE LORD ALL YE SAINTS!
