The Word
of God’s 12 promises!
The Bible is filled with promises which we may look into eternity. There
are thousands of precious promises, I never counted them but am told
there are over 35,000. Through these we can see what heaven has to offer
and know how wonderful our God and heaven is and will be for us and here
is a few to rejoice over.
I. Eternal. Matthew 24:35 (KJV) Heaven and earth shall pass
away, but my words shall not pass away.
A. Salvation is not dependent on our holding on to God, but on our being
securely held by and in Christ.
II. Unchanging. Psalms 119:89 For ever, O LORD, thy word is
settled in heaven.
A. Jesus is the Living Word and He is unchanging. Hebrews 13:8 and
Malachi 3:6
III. Truth. John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the
truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
A. When regard for truth has been broken down or even slightly weakened,
all things will remain doubtful. St. Augustine.
B. The unattended garden will soon be overrun with weeds; the heart
that fails to cultivate truth and root out error will shortly be a
theological wilderness.
- A.W. Tozer.
IV. Treasure. Psalms 119:11 Thy word have I hid in mine heart,
that I might not sin against thee.
A. Jesus said where your heart is there will also be your heart.
V. Sword. Hebrews 4:12 (KJV) For the word of God is quick, and
powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the
dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and
is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
A. Discernment in Scripture is the ability to see issues clearly. We
desperately need to cultivate this spiritual skill that will enable us
to know right from wrong. We must be prepared to distinguish light from
darkness, truth from error, best from better, righteousness from
unrighteousness, purity from defilement. We do this through the light of
the Bible.
VI. Gives Light. Psalms 119:105 Thy word is a lamp unto my
feet, and a light unto my path.
A. Some people change their ways when they see the light, others only
when they feel the heat.
VII. Gives Hope. Psalms 130:5 I wait for the LORD, my soul
doth wait, and in his word do I hope.
A. There are no hopeless situations; there are only people who have
grown hopeless about them. Hope means hoping when things are hopeless,
it is only when everything is hopeless that hope begins to be a
strength.
VIII. Keeps us from sinning. Psalms 119:11 Thy word have I hid
in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.
A. His Word is a lamp and light to the path of life.
IX. Purification. John 15:3 Now ye are clean through the word
which I have spoken unto you. Proverbs 30:5 Every word of God is pure:
he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.
A. In order for something to become clean, something else must become
dirty. Jesus became sin for us who knew no sin,
X. Jesus is the Living Word. John 1:1 In the beginning was the
Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
A. Because He lives we shall live also.
XI. World was Created. Hebrews 11:3 Through faith we
understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God,
A. God’s Word has creative power.
XII. Longevity ( Long life) Proverbs 4:10 Hear, O my son, and
receive my sayings; and the years of thy life shall be many.
A. God gives His children eternal life.
CLOSING LIFE-SPANS
A lightening bolt lasts 45 to 55 microseconds.
The average running shoe worn by the average runner on an average
surface will last 350 to 500 miles.
A hard pencil can write up to 30,000 words or draw a line more than 30
miles long.
Most ball-point pens will draw a line 4,000 to 7,500 feet long.
Leather combat boots have a wartime life-span of six months, a peacetime
life-span of eight months (The army walks during war and peace.)
The projected life-span of a baby born in the U.S. today is about 78
years, nearly double what it was at the end of the 18th century.
The longest authenticated life-span of a human being is 113 years, 214
days.
Studies show married people live longer than those who remain single.
A group of subatomic particles known as unstable hadrons exists for only
one one-hundred-sextillionth of a second (10 to the negative 23
second)--less time than it takes light to travel a single inch.
A 100-watt incandescent bulb will last about 750 hours; a 25-watt bulb,
2,500 hours.
The number of times a light bulb is turned on and off has little to do
with its life-span.
A one-dollar bill lasts approximately 18 months in circulation.
Practice footballs used by professionals last two to three days--a
playing life of perhaps five hours.
Home teams are required to provide 24 new balls each game and these last
only about six minutes of playing time.
